This neat little film takes us to Flughafen Frankfurt Main circa 1970 to witness the arrival of Lufthansa’s first Boeing 747 wide-body aircraft. Back then Frankfurt was not the leading international traffic centre that it is today, although it was still a rather busy airport within Continental Europe.
It was Lufthansa’s main operations base, but Paris and London were still larger in terms of traffic back then, but this does not detract from the mouth-watering eye candy that this little film serves up for the viewing pleasure of the current day airline enthusiast. The film presents a Lufthansa 747 and Boeing 707 on finals into Frankfurt, and we then get a bird’s eye view of the new Lufthansa Boeing 747. Followed by nice views of aircraft parked on remote stands, as in 1970 Frankfurt airport had very few if any jetways.
The film concludes with a nice collage of runway and taxi views of vintage airliners of the day, including Lufthansa Boeing 737, Boeing 707 and 747, LTU Fokker 28, Swissair DC-8-62 and some other goodies which will be revealed when viewing the movie.
