Wow! Most of those airlines, the cargo ones, I never even knew existed. The “Rich International” DC8-62 looks interesting. I thought the ANSA was a pretty beat up DC7. Could use a wash as well! Would be interesting to know where it flies, I guess airports without even stairs, as I see that ladder attached to the front of the fuselage.
This was filmed back in the early 1990s Carl, and the Rich DC-8-62 and ANSA DC-7 have been retired for some time now. Miami was a famous destination fans because of the old jetliners and propliners that were based out of Southern Florida. But those days are sadly over now. Miami is pretty much like any other airport with modern aircraft you see these days. Back in the early 1990s the ANSA DC-7 did cargo charter runs from Miami to points in the Caribbean. I actually made regular trips to Miami in the 1980s and 1990s to shoot colour slides as the place was so incredibly interesting back then.
I really enjoyed the video. I grew up near Houston, Texas. In the 1960’s as a child, I have fond memories of 707s and DC-8s coming over our house to land at Hobby Airport.
Thank you Douglas. It was filmed with my 1991 era Hi-8 camcorder so the quality is nothing like we are used to today. But it was the tail end of the classic jets and props era at Miami so it was a special time to be there. And as the weather was pretty terrible for taking slides during the duration of my visit, it allowed me time to cherry pick video segments of the occasional classic to shoot video of, and I only wish I shot more video footage. It is a neat memory. I guess your memories are of Braniff 707s and DC-8 as they were the home based airline for you, I think.
