Through the mid 1950s, inter continental travel was most commonly achieved on ocean liners. Under the leadership of Boeing President William P. Allen, the company forged its place in history as a leading global producer of commercial aircraft with the development and launch of their new four engined jetliner the Boeing 707. It was the 707 prototype called the Dash-80 which helped Boeing at winning aircraft orders from airlines all over the world, and the 707 brought the Boeing company prestige and a sterling corporate reputation, that would remain untarnished for nearly 70 years, until the disgrace and debacle of the 737 Max program.
