World Airways was a successful US supplemental air carrier providing global tramp and ad-hoc cargo services with a small fleet of state-of-the-art factory new Boeing 707-320C intercontinental jetliners. The company got its start back in the 1950s and early 1960s with DC-6 and DC-7 piston airliners, before advancing to the Boeing 707 and 727 series -100 in the mid 1960s. The Vietnam war brought lucrative military troop transport contracts to supplement their civilian work that largely involved holiday sun charters between the US mainland and Hawaii, and across the pond to Europe.
