If you were a plane spotter or slide photographer in the 1970s or 1980s, chances are you were a subscriber to North American Aviation News back in the day.
Also known by its abbreviation NAAN this publication was a must-have, and must-read resource for the latest up-to-date airline industry news, airline route news, and airlines fleet news for airlines serving North America, including Canada and the United States. It was initially launched as the OAES, which stood for Ontario Aviation Enthusiast Society publication and it changed its name and branding to NAAN in late 1976. The publication was the creation of Paul Ritchi of Toronto, who acted as the main organizer of all the volunteer information that was supplied by readers throughout North America.
Tom Norwood took over as editor in the 1980s and the popularity of the publication grew dramatically with the Deregulation of the US airline industry as more and more aviation fans became interested in spotting and slide photography. Each issue is jam-packed with airline route news, register reviews, and airport spotting reports. Henry Tenby felt that this publication deserved to be digitized so that the history would be preserved for the viewing enjoyment and research possibility of present and future aviation fans.
Most of the issues of NAAN between 1974 and 1987 are now available within the library on the JetFlix TV website.
