This publicity film from the late 1950s was made to showcase a flight between Boston and Washington, DC on a Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) Convair 440 N104 to explain the advancements in computer technology for ATC flight tracking using computer generated flight strips.
Keen observers will notice an American Airlines short tail Boeing 707 making a very brief appearance on the Boston ramp in this film. This allows us to date the production date of this all colour film to 1959 or 1960. Back in the late 1950s the Remington company also produced computer systems although they became famous in later years for razor blades for men.
And the Remington computers are shown to be the latest and greatest in helping the ATC controllers keep track of flights on airways between airports to insure safe operations. Given this film is now some 60 years old, it really is amazing just how technologically advanced things were back then.
